One-on-one mentorship is central to the success of the MVSS program. Mentors volunteer to meet with the students over a two-year period and accompany students on visits to local colleges and universities. Ideal mentors are positive, nurturing, clear communicators with good listening skills.

Mentors must have an undergraduate degree, demonstrated professional experience and success, ties to the Mount Vernon community and an understanding of the college admission process. Above all, mentors are student advocates at heart.
